Animal Welfare & Control Presentations
|
Through my position with Walton County Animal Control, I receive invitations to speak in schools, neighborhood association meetings, career fairs, shelter conferences and other events. My goal is to educate youth before they can grow to become irresponsible adult pet owners. I also wish to educate citizens about effectively dealing with domestic and wild animal issues in a manner safe to the community and to the animals.

Programs are created and tailored to any audience and include the topics:
- Responsible Pet Ownership – covers humane education topics such as vaccinations, proper care and housing, lifelong commitment, etc.
- Tasks and Tools of the Trade – ideal for school career fairs and job talks; photos demonstrate the duties of an animal control officer and kids are thrilled with hands-on demonstrations of capture tools such as catch-poles, tongs, traps and dart guns.
- Animal Shelter Tours - a tour of the Walton County Animal Control shelter mixed with short lessons on responsible pet care, basic veterinary care, shelter duties, rabies concerns and finishing with a hands-on lesson of animal control equipment. Can be modified for any age group.
- Living with Wildlife – this talk helps to increase appreciation and dispel fears of “wild animals” by teaching natural history of the common wildlife in our area. Also provides tips on living around urban wildlife and reducing nuisance issues without trapping or euthanasia.
- Animal Laws and Services – suited to neighborhood associations, talks include summaries of local and state laws, dealing with roaming pets, barking dogs, stray cats, and other issues.
- Shelter Photography Workshops are designed to give shelter volunteers and rescue groups some tips and tools they need to help their local shelter promote their adoptable animals through the internet and social media.
