"Zen" relaxing in his foster home with Labrador Friends of the South.
Wednesday, 2:02 PM - Of all the dogs that come through the shelter, it is usually the seniors that get to me the most. They are sometimes the ones most freaked out being thrust into a kennel environment after a long life in a quiet home.

“Zen” particularly pulled my heartstrings. Not only was he an older surrender, but one whose owner had passed away. I could tell he was a little upset in the kennel. But even though he didn’t know me from anyone else, he sat by my feet and waited for a calming pet on the head while his heartworm test was finalizing.

Zen was a really quiet boy and did well during his photo session. It helped that he would sit when I asked him to do so. I was hopeful that someone would look past his age (only about 9 years old) and give this loving senior a good home to live out the many remaining years of his life.
Zen was surrendered to Walton County
Animal Control on September 6, 2017. He had his "glamour" session the same day and was posted on www.waltonpets.net for adoption or rescue. "Zen" was saved by Labrador Friends of the South! His rescue was sponsored by donations from Lee, Eileen, Jen, Alice, Lane, Heather, Sharon, Lois and Kay! Thanks all!
Update from his foster with Lab Friends of the South: Zen continues to amaze us adapting to his Foster Home.  After his physical on 9/15/17, we brought him home and introduced him to Mollie, our Lab, and some of the neighbors.  He is unreal – calm, can’t wait to see people, house trained (no accidents to date), sleeps midnight to 8.  He knows what he wants and with his big beautiful eyes tells you it is time to go out!  At first, we were going to setup a create for him not knowing his background.  We didn’t and he was very content to sleep alongside our bed with Mollie.  His personality is warm and caring.  As Fosters, we think of our role as learning as much as we can and share with perspective Forever Home candidates his needs.  Well, it is simple:  He Just wants someone to love and be loved back.  Being a Lab Mix, he has the Lab gentleness, the Golden caring and, maybe even the smarts of a Shepherd.  Zen is about 7 – and he is an easy walker (not pulling) and a non-barker.  His only negative is he likes chairs and couches to sit in.  He told me: “I don’t see you sitting on the darn floor watching the game!” Zen will be an ideal pet for folks who want a fully trained, loving dog!  Oh, did we mention he loves kids, too?

Be a part of saving lives through photography! Help upgrade the shelter's aging camera by donating. Any amount helps. 100% of donations go directly to the adoption photography efforts.

Waltonpets Furtography Session: Rebel

Wednesday, 1:39 PM – “Rebel” was surrendered to Walton County Animal Control on September 6, 2017. I don’t normally like it when people dump off their pets at the shelter, but in Rebel’s case, I didn’t mind. This guy was so thin that all of his bones were visible. It was clear they had been neglecting him, as there was no underlying medical condition for his low body weight. His pitiful photos drew the attention of a rescue and he was saved by Burlington County Animal Alliance the day after his photos were posted.

Wednesday, 1:24 PM – “Celeste” was a beautiful Flat Coat Retriever mix that was surrendered to Walton County Animal Control on September 6, 2017. She hadn’t been socialized too well outside of her home, but her good looks secured her a rescue the very next day! She was saved by Burlington County Animal Alliance of New Jersey on September 7, 2017.

I’m thanking You, God, from a full heart,
I’m writing the book of your wonders.

Psalms 9, The Message Bible
Labor Day. Monday, 7:34 AM – A very cool 59°. Reading the Psalms in The Message Translation. My fleece jacket helps keep out the first chill of the approaching fall. The dim but clear sky turns magenta as the sun rises. Two hummingbirds have already begun their quarrelling over the feeder. A reddish tan doe breaks through the back woodline to forage seed that has fallen from the bird feeder. She senses my presence and turns to go.

A wide beam of bright orange sunrise dashes across the backyard lawn, illuminating a crystalline shine through the dewdrops that crown each blade of grass… a thousand tiny diamonds trapping the sunrise in liquid orbs, sparkling to get out.

Looking back through my journal, I have now completed one year of journaling. It has evolved. I don’t have a journal entry for every day, but have some sort of entry, even if brief, for every photograph.
